POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs dispatching via radio, computer and telephone of police and fire personnel. Answers telephone calls at 911 answering point and non-emergency police department phone lines and properly dispatches police and fire personnel. Enter all data from phone calls into the computer aided dispatching system. Properly processes walk-in inquiries and delegates to the appropriate personnel.
Starting Salary: $60,944 - $74,843

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Answers emergency “911” and non-emergency phone calls and dispatches appropriate police and fire personnel to incident via radio.
Uses computer aided dispatch system to enter information into computer related to “911” and non emergency calls.
Serves as emergency medical dispatcher, trained to provide emergency medical assistance via telephone to persons in need.
Utilizes computer data bases to obtain information for police officers and staff.
Performs general clerical tasks such as faxing, copying and collating
information
Assumes other responsibilities as apparent and assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1-3 years police department dispatch experience preferred but not required.
- Good use of English language – speaking, reading comprehension, spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Ability to communicate at all levels internally and externally
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills; ability to react quickly in crisis
- Ability to prioritize and work independently in a high-volume and fast-paced team environment
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in a responsible manner and to deal effectively with the public and other City employees
- Demonstrated PC skills
- Excellent typing skills
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service and exceptional follow-through
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to operate required office equipment in order to send and receive information with necessary optical, auditory and manual dexterity
- Ability to use a keyboard to enter, retrieve or transform words or data
- Ability to work twelve hour shifts that will include nights, weekends, and holidays.

- Acquire and maintain ongoing training certifications and requirements related to emergency dispatch
- Must pass extensive background investigation, which may include a polygraph and/or psychological examination
