The National Cemetery Scheduling Office (NCSO) is the central contact center for verifying military service and scheduling of burials in all 155 national cemeteries across the country. Central in that effort are the GS-07 Program Support Assistant (Scheduling Agent) positions.

The internship training consists of three weeks of classroom instruction followed by a probationary hands on period where our team will continue to develop your skills and ability assisting Veterans, their families, and funeral homes in scheduling interment services. 

Our internship program is designed to walk with you and support you in your transition. Our itnernship program can be tailored from 90 to 180 days.

Approximately half of the staff employed at the National Cemetery Scheduling Office are Veterans.   

The NCSO is staffed six days a week with operational support hours of 7:00 am to 6:45 pm Central Time. The Program Support Assistant will serve as the initial point of contact for the Veteran and his/her representative for scheduling a burial.

As a scheduling agent, you will be responsible for the review of military and other legal documents for determining qualifying military service at the time of the call based on the documents provided by the caller or documents obtained from NCA or VA systems. Once military service is verified, you as the scheduling agent will schedule the interment(s) at the preferred national cemetery.

You will also perform various analytical activities related to the interment of qualified Veterans, their spouses, and dependent children. This position performs extensive public contact by telephone requiring advanced listening skills and a high level of empathy for the Veteran or their family members during their time of grieving or emotional crisis.

While you are in the internship program. Your work schedule will be Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All federal holidays off. 

After completion of the SkillBridge program at the National Cemetery Scheduling Office and if you accept an offer of employment, you will be assigned to one of the work schedules below. There are frequent shift bids throughout the year as the office strives for work life balance for all of its members.
