POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs general maintenance, repair and upkeep of all Parks grounds and buildings. Completes various installation projects as assigned. Operates a variety of equipment to complete tasks as assigned.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Repair, maintain and perform improvements to all grounds, buildings, structures, equipment and other amenities within the jurisdiction of the Parks and Recreation Department.

 

Clean and remove trash, litter and debris at all properties assigned. Clean, sanitize, restock and conduct general maintenance of all comfort stations and Parks buildings.

 

Sand, scrape, scrub, remove rust and paint as well as other items involving building and equipment repair and maintenance.

 

Remove snow and ice from sidewalks and parking areas as assigned.

 

Drive, operate and maintain motorized equipment and vehicles used in the routine maintenance of Parks properties, building and amenities, including but not limited to: light and medium duty trucks, ATV’s, chain saws, air compressors, battery chargers, power washers, generators, vacuums and other equipment as required for efficient care of equipment and properties.

 

Conduct manual digging, grading, blading, raking, planting, trimming, mulching and other duties related to landscaping as assigned. 

 

Minor routine utilization of mechanic’s tools for maintenance of power tools, equipment, buildings and amenities.

 

Make the following minor repairs:

  • Plumbing: improvements and installations including comfort station fixtures and appliances, drinking fountains, decorative fountains and waterfalls, pumps, drain valves and other plumbing related equipment as needed
  • Electrical: improvements and installations including circuits, fixtures and appliances

 

Initiate and complete:

·         Park construction projects including fence installation, concrete sidewalks, footings and pads, construction framing and finishing of minor renovations

·         Landscaping installation

·         Playground equipment installation

 

Keep, maintain and provide logs and records of projects, vehicle and equipment maintenance and safety checks completed within Parks jurisdiction.

Assumes other responsibilities as apparent and assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess valid Illinois driver’s license. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in grounds and building maintenance.
  • Prior experience in the area of grounds/turf management preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of operation of mowing equipment, tools and equipment related to general maintenance of grounds.
  • Specific training and education in grounds and building maintenance, horticulture, mechanics or related fields preferred.
  • Physical and mental ability to safely carry out general maintenance duties relative to normal grounds and building care and repair, construction, demolition and renovation of grounds, buildings, equipment and park related structures.
  • Physical ability to lift or carry objects weighting 50-100 pounds
  • Physical ability to drive motorized vehicles and park equipment, operate mowing, grading, plowing trimming and other motorized or manual type maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to walk, stand or sit for an hour or more at a time

Ability to work in extreme summer and winter weather conditions.
