Description This position is part of the Air Force Elements, U.S. Transportation Command.As a OPERATIONS SECURITY SPECIALIST at the GS-0301-13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Identifies and controls critical information, indicators of friendly force actions applicable to DoD military operations and USTRANSCOM global logistics movements, and incorporates countermeasures to reduce adversary exploitation of USTRANSCOM sensitive information and vulnerabilities.
  • Develop OPSEC countermeasures specific to USTRANSCOM. Ensure the Command's OPSEC risk assessment and countermeasures are synchronized throughout the J-Directorates and Component Commands at USTRANSCOM.
  • Aligns the joint preparation of the operational environment. The OPSEC Program Manager's coordination with the USTRANSCOM J2 Directorate will ensure threat analysis within the OPSEC cycle is fully informed when developing OPSEC countermeasures
You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the missions, roles, functions, organizational structures, and operation of the Federal Government, DoD, Service Departments, and Command organizations that govern, interface with, and influence OPSEC responsibilities, processes and activities.
  • Mastery level experience, knowledge and/or DoD, Military Service, or inter-agency training on Operations Security.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of national, strategic, and operational consequences resulting from spillages or leaks of DoD intelligence and/or operational information, and how those consequences harmed DoD operations, planning, or standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, conduct analysis, devise courses of action in line with OPSEC best practices and procedures, and package for briefings, papers, or reports suitable for senior leadership use and decision-making.
  • Experience in or understanding of Intelligence Community collection, analysis, production, and feedback cycles, specifically how intelligence drives DoD operations, informs OPSEC concerns, and fits within operations in the information environment (OIE).
  • A high degree of written and verbal communication skills; ability to negotiate complex issues; and maintain excellent interpersonal working relationships to effectively communicate with senior leaders and organizations both internal and external to the DoD.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
