Explore St. Louis is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Visitor Services team as a Hospitality Intern with a focus on coordinating support for key conventions in summer 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in the hospitality and events industry, learn from experienced professionals, and build a strong foundation for a future career. This position requires a high level of CSR and ongoing contact with the public. In this role, you will provide assistance by coordinating volunteer support, organizing resources and welcoming and disseminating information to visitors with inquiries. Essential duties include the following:
- Assist with Welcome Program duties for key events to include Meeting Professionals International’s annual World Education Congress in mid-June, and the 60,000+ Seventh Day Adventist Convention in July. Work in experiential activations at the Airport, Hotels, Convention Center and off-site venues.
- Provide support to the Visitor Services team in preparation for large scale conventions by helping with volunteer schedules, preparing training resources, and distributing materials prior to events. Assist with supervision of the welcome staff and volunteers during events.
- Assist with coordination and organization of special events to include the Ride Share Driver Appreciation event and MPI Volunteer Thank you party.
- Greet and provide assistance to St. Louis area visitors. Promote upcoming events and activities throughout the region.
- Perform ‘meet and greet’ duties during events.
- Perform destination research, perform occasional switchboard duties, assist with mailing projects, and perform special projects as assigned.
A high school diploma or GED is required. Associates degree is preferred along with 1 to 3 years of customer service experience. Excellent verbal skills plus an engaging communication style are critical to the role. Proficiency in navigating the internet, GPS and mobile apps is essential. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings + weekends and holidays is necessary. Hospitality/tourism related experience is preferred. Professional conduct along with a neat + clean appearance is required.
Additional Qualifications
- Maintain a working knowledge of the St. Louis metro region with a good geographical knowledge of the area to provide directions to Visitors.
- Knowledge and familiarity with area attractions, transportation, dining, hotels, etc. for Visitor needs.
- Maintain familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word and Excel), with the ability to learn and navigate database management systems.
- A demonstrated passion for customer service and travel.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with employees and the general public.
- Outgoing personality with an ability to relate to various types of people.
- A team player attitude plus an ability to work effectively in a group environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision required.
