Data Scientist Fellow GS-1560-07/09/11/12 ($51,228-$90,870) – 1 Position

The Army Fellows Program is a two-year career development fellowship as a federal government employee. Applicants must have graduated from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s or higher degree within two years (four years if an honorably discharged Veteran) prior to starting the program. Fellows are permanent, full-time employees with a competitive salary, full benefits, and guaranteed placement after the fellowship for those who meet program requirements. This 24-month program is designed to provide training and a structured and exciting experience for Army Civilians that will enable you to experience career growth quickly by earning up to two promotions within 24 months. After the 24 months of your fellowship, you will be placed in a permanent position at the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) located at Scott AFB, IL.

 Job Description:

This is a developmental position starting at a GS-7 grade, then promoted to a GS-9 after one year, then to a GS-11 after the second year, and then GS-12 after the third year. Supports SDDC’s senior Data Scientists in the Strategy and Analysis Division of the Personnel and Manpower (G-1) Directorate. Assists with the application of operations research and advanced data analysis techniques to identify the methods, processes, algorithms, tools, and systems to extract and interpret findings to help optimize G-1 programs. Performs a wide range of complex analytical, mathematical and statistical research that inform operational requirements and provide options on how to best implement data driven solutions. Plans, coordinates and executes studies of marked difficulty and responsibility that address advanced data modeling techniques and procedures, data trend analysis and the development of mathematical data algorithms. Assists in the development and documentation of tools for assigned data programs and projects. Provides analysis, produces data analysis leveraging data science methodologies and applies modeling techniques and procedures in support of the Army's migration to data driven initiatives that increase the velocity of relevant data to the point of need.

SDDC is located at Scott Air Force Base, IL, about 20 minutes east of St. Louis, MO.  It is a full-time federal employee civilian job working at an Army command where 75% of the employees are civilians. Program Requirements:

  • Must have graduated from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s or higher degree within two years of start date (four years if an honorably discharged Veteran with four years or more of service)
  • Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.95 out of 4.0
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
  • Mobility Agreement required.
