POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary function/purpose of this job.

Performs computer data entry of confidential police reports/citations.  Uses cash register or credit/debit machine to receipt monies and give change.  Performs various office duties such as filing, using photocopier, facsimile machine and typewriter; answers three or more phone lines, transferring calls to appropriate personnel. Handles customer & citizen inquiries.  Completes background checks for solicitors/transient merchants & businesses.

 

Rate of pay $20.80 per hour

Medical/Dental/Vision are covered at 100% for the employee

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enters/retrieves confidential data and information into/from specialized

computer software

 

Screens incoming calls and transfers to appropriate personnel

 

Uses cash register to receipt monies, greets customers

 

Files documents, reports and maintains confidential files

 

Performs general clerical tasks such as faxing, copying and collating

information

 

Assumes other responsibilities as apparent and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum requirements to competently perform the key responsibilities of this job in terms of educational background, work experience, licenses/certifications, physical requirements and other knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years clerical experience required
  • Good use of English language – speaking, reading comprehension, spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Ability to communicate at all levels internally and externally
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

·         Ability to manage multiple actions/projects simultaneously

  • Sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills; ability to react quickly in crisis
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently in a high-volume and fast-paced team environment
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in a responsible manner and to deal effectively with the public and other City employees
  • Demonstrated PC skills, specifically with Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent typing skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and exceptional follow-through
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to operate required office equipment in order to send and receive information with necessary optical, auditory and manual dexterity
  • Ability to use a keyboard to enter, retrieve or transform words or data
  • Ability to walk, stand or sit for an hour or more at a time
  • Ability to lift or carry objects weighting 5-20 pounds
  • Ability to closely examine a computer screen or written reports and ability to proofread and check documents for errors
