POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary function/purpose of this job.
Assists with the day to day functions of Parks programming including selling concession stand items, scorekeeping youth and adult sports leagues, monitoring the splash pad, prepping sports fields, or maintaining parks. Staff may work just one or all of the following responsibilities.
- Must be 15+ years of age with a work permit

- Rate of Pay - $15 - $16.50 per hour.
SPLASH PAD MONITOR
Monitor splash pad to ensure that visitors are enjoying the facility in a safe and courteous manner and are abiding by the posted rules and regulations.
BASSET CONCESSIONAIRE (18+)
Prepare, sell and distribute food, drink, and alcoholic beverages at Parks & Recreation facilities.
CONCESSIONAIRE (15+)
Prepare, sell and distribute food and drink at Parks & Recreation facilities.
SPORTS PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER
Responsible for the general cleanliness, maintenance, and preparation of Plummer Family Sports Park. Requires valid Driver’s License
FIELD MAINTENANCE
Responsible for the general repair, maintenance, and preparation of the athletic fields.
SPORTS OFFICIALS
Make calls and officiate all rules and regulations. Track the game/event accurately while maintaining the official scorebook, roster, and scoreboard.
SCOREKEEPING
Track the game accurately while maintaining the official scorebook and scoreboard throughout the game.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The major task areas required to successfully perform this job.
- Prepare concession products according to instructions.
- Stock and display concession products for sale to patrons and replenish as needed.
- Greet patrons as they approach concession area.
- Sell concessions including food, soft drinks and merchandise to patrons.
- Operate a cash register and/or computer with a cash drawer.
- Handle cash, check (if applicable) and credit card (if applicable) transactions.
- Receive money and make correct change for customers.
- Monitor money in cash drawer to ensure adequate change is available.
- Help to minimize waste by preparing less food when attendance is low.
- Balance cash drawers and complete deposit form at end of shift.
Perform Maintenance Worker duties while preparing the park for sporting events.
- Clean dugouts, bleachers, bleachers, and common areas by picking up trash, sweeping, and mopping.
- Aid in moving pitching mounds and other large objects
- Drive gator or motorized vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
- Carry items such as trash-bags, trash cans, cleaning supplies, pitching mounds, bags, and weights for equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Maintain equipment such as bases, line machines, gator, and all other equipment needed and inform Sports Supervisor of any needed maintenance.
- Responsible for locking away all equipment and shutting down park with the Sports Supervisor at the end of the shift.
- Inform Sports Supervisor of daily operation problems and/or concerns immediately.
- Monitor splash pad and provide excellent customer service at all times.
- Monitor visitors to ensure that posted rules are followed.
- Politely stop inappropriate behavior/actions.
- Assist visitors in locating restrooms, water fountains, concessions, etc. when asked.
- Monitor the number of visitors to ensure that the splash pad does not exceed capacity.
- Regularly patrol area around splash pad to pick up litter.
- Monitor weather conditions and evacuate splash pad in the event of lightening or inclement weather.
Perform scorekeeper responsibilities at sporting events and provide excellent customer service at all times.
- Prepare scorebook at the beginning of the sporting event.
- Track game accurately while maintaining a record in the official scorebook.
- Monitor and operate official scoreboard throughout the game.
- Greet participants and answer questions regarding all matters of line ups, official score, and final decisions.
Perform Field Maintenance Worker duties while preparing the playing surfaces for sporting events.
- Drive gator or motorized vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
- Carry items such as rakes, drag mats, field chalk, shovels, tamps, bags, and weights for equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Maintain equipment such as bases, line machines, gator, and all other equipment needed and inform Recreation Supervisor of any needed maintenance.
- Push a field chalk box the length of the field several times throughout a shift.
- Use straight line pulled the length of the field to draw a chalk line over the top of it
- Hold on to a fire hose and properly wet down the playing surface
- Responsible for locking away all equipment and locking field gates at the end of the shift.
- Inform Parks and Sports Superintendent of daily operation problems and/or concerns immediately.
Sport Official worker responsibilities at Parks & Recreation facilities and provide excellent customer service at all times.
- Prepare scorebook at the beginning of the sporting event.
- Interpret and enforce rules and local rule adaptations on the field throughout the game.
- Make decisions on any point not specifically covered in rules.
- Track game accurately while maintaining a record in the official scorebook.
- Check team rosters/lineups prior to each game.
- Monitor and operate official scoreboard throughout the game.
- Greet participants and answer questions regarding all matters of line ups, official score, and final decisions.
- Transfer final scores and details of the game to the Supervisor.
- Inform Supervisor of daily operational problems and/or concerns immediately.
Perform Basset Concession worker responsibilities at Parks & Recreation facilities and provide excellent customer service at all times.
- Prepare concession products according to instructions.
- Stock and display concession products for sale to patrons and replenish as needed.
- Greet patrons as they approach concession area.
- Sell concessions including food, soft drinks and merchandise to patrons.
- Operate a cash register and/or computer with a cash drawer.
- Handle cash, check (if applicable) and credit card (if applicable) transactions.

Establish and maintain a safe work environment.
- Maintain good personal hygiene.
- Obtain supplies used for scorekeeping during the game.
- Set up scorekeeping area in order to have all supplies needed during the game.
- Clean up all equipment, scorebooks, etc. at the end of the shift and return them to their stocked cabinets.
Assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum requirements to competently perform the key responsibilities of this job in terms of educational background, work experience, licenses/certifications, physical requirements and other knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification required at time of hire or must be able to obtain certification within 60 days of hire
- Must agree to get a Food Handlers Certification (Expense paid by City)
- Ability to work weekdays, weekends and holidays.
- Prior experience in a position involving cash handling preferred.
- Ability to operate a cash register / computer which involves repetitive hand motions while operating keyboard, collecting money and providing change when needed.
- Sound judgment and strong problem-solving
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service and exceptional follow-through; ability to interact effectively with patrons and City employees in person or via telephone.
- Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns professionally and respectfully.
- Ability to manage multiple actions/projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to operate equipment, including but not limited to, popcorn kettles, warmers, soft drink machines, and gators.
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to reach high, overhead levels and low floor levels by either or by bending of the back or knees.
- Ability to lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds .
