AIRPORT FACILITY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

MidAmerica St. Louis Airport (BLV)

Reports to: Airport Facilities Maintenance Supervisor

Beginning Annual Salary Range: $26.26/hr ($54,620.80)

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance tasks of all buildings & facilities under the control of the Airport including heating, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing systems, fire alarm & sprinkler systems, and other mechanical and physical systems associated with general facility maintenance.   Additionally, the position is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance tasks of airfield facilities, including pavement surfaces, pavement markings, signs, lights, fences/gates, and navigational aids.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Maintains sewage lines, sprinkler systems, and building suppression systems.
  • Maintains equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
  • Maintains vehicle gates and powered openers.
  • Maintains aircraft passenger boarding bridges.
  • Maintains airport baggage systems.
  • Performs duties in accordance with the airport's safety rules and operating regulations and practices.
  • Reports irregularities and abnormal conditions.
  • Assists employees of equal or higher classifications.
  • May be tasked with performing less skilled work based on airport needs.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs of AC-DC Control Circuits & motors, frequency drives and other airport equipment.
  • Works with low and high voltage systems (mill volt up to 480 volts).
  • Works with single and three phase electrical circuits.
  • Works with computerized building management systems.
  • Maintains chillers, cooling towers, and associated equipment.
  • Maintains closed loop water system, tests, and treats water, as necessary.
  • Works with PLC & other Digital Controls.
  • Operates small to large snow removal vehicles and equipment and performs snow removal functions during winter operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Must have basic knowledge of electricity, electrical wiring, and electrical HVAC controllers.
  • Must have basic knowledge of single and three phase motors.
  • Ability to use computerized building management systems.
  • Ability to work from ladders or highly elevated locations such as bucket truck platforms and roof tops.
  • Ability to implement and adhere to a systematic maintenance and inspection program.
  • Ability to repair and make necessary recommendations required to keep equipment operating at peak efficiency.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, & electrical diagrams.
  • Ability to use two-way radio equipment.
  • Ability to operate vehicles in a controlled airport environment.
  • Computer experience, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products required.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • High school equivalent education with at least 4 years of experience in commercial/industrial facility maintenance required.
  • Tech School certification or degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with computer control systems and Building Monitoring Systems controls preferred.
  • Experience in facilities maintenance and troubleshooting.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an airport-issued security ID badge
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Class B commercial driver’s license. Must obtain by completion of the six-month probationary period at employees own expense.
  • Must be available to be on-call and respond timely after hours when designated, and in the event of recall for weather related events and emergencies.

BASIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, and driving required.  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
