ANNOUNCEMENT: Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for the full-time administrative position of Payroll Specialist.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: In accordance with the Mission and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, this position provides a wide range of administrative functions to support the semi-monthly processing of employee payroll. Also involves frequent interaction with college administrators, faculty, and other staff. The work requires knowledge of college policies and procedures and the exercise of independent judgment, discretion, and initiative based on that knowledge. Work is performed with a minimum of supervision and requires confidentiality. The work is reviewed for adherence to college policy and procedure and for achievement of desired results. Works under general direction; will also receive assignments from the Chief Financial Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or another relevant field is required.

2. Three (3) years of experience in payroll or related field is required. Two (2) years of automated payroll accounting experience and previous payroll supervisory experience is preferred.

3. Certification as a Payroll Professional through the American Payroll Association is preferred.

4. Experience working in higher education is preferred.

5. Proficiency and work experience with personal computers and software programs are required (Microsoft Office Suite applications).

6. Specialized training in PeopleSoft payroll module is preferred.

7. Must successfully pass a criminal background check prior to hire.

SALARY: Salary Grade 3 on the Administrative Pay Scale, ranging from $52,150 to $65,200.

WORK LOCATION: On-site at Belleville Campus, with district-wide responsibilities.
