Airfield Operations Specialist (Part-Time)


The Virginia Tech/Montgomery Executive Airport is seeking a mature, dependable part-time employee to serve on the airfield operations team.

Responsibilities

  • Essential duties will include, but are not limited to the following: aircraft refueling and ground handling, snow removal, airfield mowing, landscaping, facility maintenance and customer service.
  • Coordinates airport operations during assigned shift, ensuring the safety and security of the public, tenants and airport staff
  • Maintains current knowledge of all Airport rules, regulations, and policies.
  • On airfield repairs; airfield lighting; janitorial; maintenance of main terminal and grounds.
  • Conducts periodic and daily inspections of runways, taxiways, fuel farm and other airport facilities. Reports all conditions that impact the safe operations of aircraft and ensures the safety of the flying public.
  • Performs other functions as requested by the Director of Operations and Airport Director
  • On call for wildlife runway sweeps.
  • Coordinate and testing of fuel deliveries.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills when handling customers.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • This position requires skills in prioritization, organization, verbal communications, interpersonal relations with co-workers and the public.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and set priorities.
  • Electrical and mechanical experience is highly preferable with the ability to check, lubricate, and maintain various types of electrical and mechanical equipment as well as troubleshoot system malfunctions and recognize problems and take quick corrective action in addressing potential hazards or existing discrepancies.

Additional Information:

  • Along with weekday, weekend and holiday shifts, this position requires availability for all VT Home Football game days. Shifts will vary as needed and after hours call outs may be required.
  • Reasonable care for equipment/process will prevent injury/damage
  • The employee regularly lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, grasping, and repetitive motions.
  • This employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions throughout the year
  • The selected employee will be subject to a background check
  • The wage is $12.00 to $15.00 per hour depending on skill level and experience. This position will not exceed 1,500 hours during the initial year of employment or during the Affordable Care Act measurement period of April 1st through March 31st. A satisfactory post offer pre-employment criminal background investigation will be required of the selected applicant.
