Description This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: The incumbent will serve as an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) with responsibility for performing medical examinations and documenting medical history and findings in order for a determination to be made about suitability of applicants for service in the Armed Forces.This is an open continuous announcement, meaning that several vacancies may be filled throughout the announcement period. As applicants apply, a pool of candidates is generated. Once a vacancy occurs, candidates will be reviewed for qualifications and referred to the hiring manager for consideration. The first cutoff date is May 3rd, 2024. Additional cutoffs will occur as vacancies are identified, upon request of management or until position(s) are filled.

This is a Term position scheduled to last two (2) years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of eight (8) years depending upon the needs of management.

Current Federal Employees who accept a TERM appointment will be separated at the end of the TERM appointment date if the Not-to-Exceed (NTE) date is not extended. There are no return/reemployment rights to the position vacated prior to accepting the TERM appointment.


In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner):

Education:
A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. (Areas of specialties for positions include, but are not limited to, Acute Care, Anesthesia, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health, Midwifery, Neonatal, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Allergy and Immunology, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Occupational Health, Orthopedic, Respiratory, or other specialties identified for the position.)

This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Foreign Degree: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. (Note: You must attach a copy of your Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools certification.)

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional Licensure Requirement: Applicants must possess licensure or registration by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirements below. (Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.)

**Some states require a collaborative practice agreement for individuals hired outside of their state of licensure.**

Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Providing and/or coordinating patient care; 2) Conducting screening examinations; 3) Ordering and/or reviewing diagnostic tests to treat health conditions; and 4) Maintaining patient medical records. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
